I recently purchased a 26 ft travel trailer and really love it but the problem i'm gonna run into in a couple of years is that it only has a queen bed and then the pullout sofa and folddown table and i have a 2 year old right now. So i'm thinking that as much as i like it , it's just not gonna be practicle to keep unfolding the sofa all the time. What i'm wondering is what would be the largest 5th wheel with seperate bunks in it that I could tow with a 1/2 ton truck. Right now I have a dodge ram 1500 that can do 7200 lbs. I know you'll probably tell me that i can get a bigger travel trailer with bunks but i just like the style of the 5th wheels. And the other thing is I could always just upgrade to a bigger truck then towing wouldnt be a problem and i could easily do a 30 ft fifth wheel but i just dont think that is gonna be an option when it comes time to buy a new truck, pricewise anyway.
I was just hoping for some info if you get a chance to see if i'm just wasting my time thinking about it and should just settle for a bigger ultralite travel trailer with bunks when the time comes.
PS- do you have any idea when the next camper show will be in knoxville??

thanks,
Erik

to be honest with you.... you will not find much in a 1/2 fifth wheel. Some company's will tell you that they are 1/2 ton tow able but the truth is.... in the weight.

If you are willing to give up a slide out then you can find some bunk house models in the half ton range.

The frame on a fifth wheel will weigh more than a travel trailer and also cost more.

The nest show in Knoxville is last weekend of Jan.

unfortunatly that was the answer i was expecting but not hoping for. Also, after looking at a few websites of 5th wheels it looks like unless you can get up to the 30 ft range they are really not any more luxury then a travel trailer. And a new 1 ton truck and a 30 ft 5th wheel just wont be in the budget anytime soon. So, probably in a couple of years i'll just go for a bigger TT with bunks in an ultralite model. Thanks.
