Well I believe it is a need rather than a want. I full time for about 8 months out of the year. I will say that the farther you have to have the front of your fifth up in the air to get it level, the more you are going to feel movement in the front when you move around upstairs. If you will stand in front of your camper and take hold of the pinbox and push it from side to side, you will be surprised at the amount of movement that you will see. With the stabilizer you will have zero movement in the front end.
I have a BAL brand stabilizer with three telescopic legs. I had another brand sold by Camping World which utilized hanging the chain from the upper center of the tripod, but it had zero leg adjustment. This is a problem if you have to raise the front of the camper very high. The BAL with the chain at the bottom holding the three legs together with the adjustable legs, eliminates this adjustment problem. Just spread it out, attach the chain to the third leg and use the screw on one leg to tighten.
The only problem that I found was that once in while, the chain might not be long enough. I corrected this by making up a piece of chain about 18 inches long with a screw together link that I can use to extend the chain if necessary.
I truly believe that you would be very happy with this tripod. It is in my opinion the very best that is made.
Click on the link below and it will take you to a site called PPL motor homes. This is where I bought mine. I will never have another fifth wheel without this. You will be surprised at the difference.
Hope this will help you....
