let me share this email from a member of my church about a special little boy at our church who is going to St. Jude this Tuesday

Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to share with you an urgent prayer request for a special young man named Dalton Bass.
Dalton is a cute, energetic 9 year old who loves fishing, drums, video games, school, friends and Jesus.

Dalton has had 2 other fights with leukemia and has been "leukemia free" for the past 20 months. However, his family received word today that his leukemia has returned. The doctors are now telling the family that he will need a bone marrow transplant. I am asking you to please consider doing the following:

1. Please pray. Not just today or tomorrow, but daily. Pray for the Bass family, the doctors and for a bone marrow match. The immediately family is not a match.

2. If you would consider being a bone marrow donor, the screening is a simple blood test. You can go to the Holston Valley Hospital or your local hospital and request that the tissue matching be placed in the national data base. They will check and see if you are a match for Dalton. Dalton's mom shared with me this evening that typically the match will come from someone that does not even know Dalton, but a bone marrow drive is an effective tool. Your match may not help Dalton, but may help someone else.

3. Please pass this email along to as many friends and family as you feel comfortable. If you do not feel comfortable about sending the section about bone marrow donation, please pass along the prayer request.

Thanks for your prayers. I am thinking about going to get checked to see if I could be a match,if you think you could be ask to be crossed matched with Dalton.

If there is no bone marrow match he will only have 4-5 months left

I so sorry to hear that this little angel has to go through this. We recently had to go through something like this as they found cysts on my sons bone and so far they don't think it's cancer. Please let the family know that they are in my prayers and I will definitely be thinking about them and pass this along to more of my family.

Hugs to the precious little one,
Carla

I just found out that they are going to be doing a bone marrow drive at Ft. Robinson Baptist Church in Kingsport on Tuesday 10/24 from 3:30pm-6:30pm. To see if you are a bone marrow match they swipe a cotton swab on the inside of your cheek. You will then be put on the national bone marrow list for anyone that may match you. I encourage everyone to try and attend!

Where did you find out this information. I will make it down to be checked out. What a miracle it would be if someone from his home church would be a match..

We will also say a prayer.

We had a friend that also needed a bone marrow transplant.
We went and they had to draw blood and we had to fill out some papers saying that we wanted to be added to the list for future patients.
I think its a great thing to do. Whether you know the person or not.

I spent most of the morning on the phone trying to find out where to be tested. I first called Wellmont Hospital, then they transferred me to the Marsh Blood Bank and you can go there anytime to be tested, she transferred me to Linda Hilton about helping someone local and she told me about the bone marrow drive. I don't know who it is specifically for, but she said that you would be put on the national list to help anyone.

ok I say us girls go to get tested about 6 and then go to dinner.. what do you say. I will ask Kristi about it

update from his dad Chris on Jan 19th

We had a good visit this past weekend as we were able to stay away from
the hospital Saturday-Monday with the exception of getting Dalton's line
unclogged. Dalton felt pretty good so he played video games and pool
most of the weekend at the apartment. His counts are still low so we
were not able to go out anywhere. His pre-transplant admit date has
been pushed out one week until Jan. 31. So actual transplant date
should be around Feb. 8-9. My plan now is to stay in Kingsport thru
Jan. 26.

Continue to pray that things continue to fall into place as transplant
time nears. Pray that the family is able to stay well. Pray for travel
safety. Continue to pray that Zane will be OK without his parents
around for a few weeks. We will try to get Zane to Memphis on occasion
as his activities and school work permits.

Thank you for the many ways that you continually support our family.

latest email from Daltons dad

Subject: Dalton update - please forward

We are getting ready to take Dalton to the hospital for in-patient
admission. He has to be there by 8:00pm. He is in the apartment lobby
watching a movie with the other kids right now. He is feeling well. We
have played pool and worked on a model the past couple of days. Dalton will
have fluids started tonight and they will run for 12 hours before starting
high dose chemo tomorrow morning. He will do this for four days and then he
will switch over to four days of radiation starting Monday. He will receive
radiation twice daily during this time. The transplant will take place on
Friday, March 9....lasting anywhere from 1-6 hours.

Continue to pray that everyone remains well, including the donor. Pray for
rest for our family. Pray that Zane will be fine as he stays in Kingsport.
Hopefully he can come down the weekend of March 9-11. He will have a week
of Spring Break the last week of March.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support for our family.

Great News!!

The bone marrow test results came back 100% donor. Praise be to God! Today is day 38. Dalton continues to feel pretty good and is starting to interact again with the other kids at the apartment - playing pool and monopoly. He is back to his kidding and joking self, so that is a good sign. His IV meds were stopped as of Friday and he had a break from the hospital this weekend and will only probably have two doctor visits this week. He will still have to go to the hospital three times a week for school. He is eating well.

I plan to fly down sometime this weekend. Once I get there, Angie has agreed to fly home to Kingsport for a few days while I stay with Dalton. Zane's baseball got cranked up this past weekend. Reports cards should come out today.

Everyone has remained healthy. Continue to pray for everyone's health and travel safety. Pray for Dalton's continued progress.

We continually thank God for the many ways in which you have supported our family these past few months.

Chris
