Anyone ever add a sink to their older pup? We are thinking of adding a sink and was wondering if I did that is their anyway to add an external tank to the cassette portapotty. Could I run the commode and the sink into one drain in one of those big blue tanks?

You are adding a sink, we are taking one out. Our bathroom is small, so we are going to take out the sink so there will be a little bit more room for when you take a shower. We are trying to figure out about the drain pipe and faucet for the shower. This ought to be fun.

As far as adding one and using a blue portable tank if you have the room it shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you have a trap on the sink. I found a older trailer and restored it. It was made in the day when it was ok to run greywater on the ground. I didn't want to add another tank for greywater so what I did was to get a portable tank. I attach the hose to it and the sink and shower go into it. I can open the shutoff to the sewer tank and drain it also if need be. Just make sure you keep an eye on the level in it and that the hoses are tight.

Typically you don't want to tie your grey water items into your black water tank due to contaminationa and additional odor issues. A friend of ours has a new larger pop-up and it also uses the cassett style stool. There grey water system for sink and shower just goes to the outside dump connection and not to any storage. They have a single hose connection on the outside which they can tie into a sewer or a portable blue tank I suppose, but it also has valves to allow them to dump the black water, and then flush the grey water drain pipes thru the same hose.

I don't know if that made any since, but the summary is their grey water just goes to the outside dump connection, not into any storage tank at all. Black water is held in the cavity below the toilet until they dump it.

I am fairly new to camping and I am not that familiar with the plumping of newer ones. But I got a few questions on them Hotrodyj. I think I understand by what you said of flushing. You dump or empty the sewage water into the dump then you shut the valve when it drains and open the grey water so it can flow into the black tank and help wash it out. then you open the valve to the black and it lets that combination of grey/black water into the dump then.Is that correct? Does the Grey cutoff on new ones tie into before or after the black water cutoff? Another thing on camping I have only been to Rock Island so far and they only have one dump connection. Do other campgrounds have individual dump connections at each campsite? I set mine up to dump greywater into a portable tank due to added cost of a mounted grey tank and also there was no good space under my camper without major redesign. Mine has worked well with no smells. But I do have good hoses and try to be real neat. I take and dump out the grey water each morning. I have tried dumping the sewage water into my portable tank once to try it out. It worked good also. But thats me. My camper does have a really good vent system so I don't have to deal with the odor. I guess I need to make a trip to my RV store and look under RVs to check the tanks out. Man I need to get into RVs as a occupation ,these are really interesting.

I am wondering where I could pick up the parts to try to lay this out and see if this is something I want to do.

Thanks,
Ken

Check with your local rv dealership that has parts. I got to know the guys at the rv place I went, They even asked if I was looking for a job repairing RVs. Anyway they will have the parts and sink. Plus they can give you advice. As far as the plumping pipe goes I got mine at lowes and other hardware stores. You could take a measurement of a sink you like and make a cardboard cutout to get an idea. Sinks are not too expensive for the cheaper ones. I seen them on ebay and surplus for about 10 bucks. .

Normally grey watewr does not go to the black water tank at all. You have one sewer hose connection on the outside of the camper to dump thru and both black water tank and grey water system are plumbed to this one sewer hose connector. Each with it's own valve to dump one, then the other but they are totally seperate systems and never connect except at the sewer hose to dump.

So I guess I would be better off to empty the potty the way I have been, and when I run a sink maybe I could use something like a 5 gallon bucket to dump it in.

Ken, do you need the sink? We have a small bathroom sink out of our camper, if you need it, its yours.

I would like to pick up the sink sometime. That would be a great help. This is just one of many mods I am planning for this winter.

Thanks,
Ken
