Anyone have any reccomendations for what type of metal detector to buy for a 8 yr old? I need something that is fairly easy to use and understand for my daughter. I think this would be a good thing to get ehr into. As much as she likes the outdoors, she would probably enjoy this.

the Pioneer 202 from Walmart is the same as the Bounty Hunter quickdraw II. If that one is too expensive for an 8 year old I would suggest the next one down. I believe it is the 101. You don't want to get too much sunk into it in case she doesn't like it.

Thanks Dirtfisher. I wasn't sure what options to look for or whatever. She just loves being out doors and I figured this would be a nice add on. I am not sure of the laws about State parks and all that either. We ususally go to Harrison bay and a couple of other places and she is always playin in the dirt and diggin up junk. I figured she would like it but like you said she may not.

The first place I went when I got a detector was to Warriors Path State Park and they said no metal detecting allow, what was in the state ground was the states and it was going to stay there. Usually the best places to go are public playgrounds and playgrounds at the schools. Sandy play lots are a whole lot easier to dig. If you go to the beaches with her that is a great place, either get her a sand scoop or make her one before you go. The main thing is get permission and make sure there is no law against it. Here where I live, one can detect on any city property, along the strip between sidewalk and street, all playgrounds and school playgrounds. Just a few neat finds and she will be hooked for life. LOL and being 8, no one may say anything to her for detecting. Just enjoy and grandpa might join her on the hunts with his on detector.
