Last year I heard that Roan Mountain was going to stop allowing people to come and pay for their spot and leave a tent in it's place, to hold your spot.


Has anybody heard anything about any new restrictions?



I also saw here last year that TN State parks were going to start taking reservations this year. Is that true?

I cjecked the TN web page and I cannot find any info on the subject.

I hope they start reservations.
We want to go to Roan Mt. but we need about 6 sites.and we can not go put a tent on a site to hold it till the weekend.

I do not like this policy.It is not fair to the folks who have to travel hundreds of miles and get a site because someone has a pup tent on a site and not a person.
Then two days later they show up with the tt.

I know it is nice for the local campers but think about then ones who are out of state.

I'll see if I can find anything out about this. I live on 20 mins from the park and I don't like the way they can use a pup tent as well. I don't go and reserve a site because I don't like it. Most places you have to occupy the site within 24 hours, and that's the way I think it should be. (But that's just my opinion) I'll report back if I find out anything. I hope they go to reservations as well.

i would like to know what changes they have made

I called up to Roan Mt today, and the lady I talked with stated that there have been "talks" of changing the pup tent policy, but that nothing definite had been decided. She said it was still too early, but it was a good possiblity that it would NOT change this year. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
