Does anyone have any info on where to stay or whatever in or around Disney World. Would love to be able to take the family for a trip there and maybe pull the pop-up down there for maybe a week.. Any info would be great. Thanks!

If you are thinking of going to Disney World the best thing to do would be make reservation at Fort Wilderness. Once you get in the park and setup you wouldn't have to move your vehicle unless you wanted to. You can ride the ferry or shuttle over to the magic kingdom, the water world and there are a lot of things to do in Fort Wilderness for the kids. You can go online to check it out of call 1-800-Disneyland. A trip well worth the money......air conditioned, comfortable and clean bath houses and good size sites.

Wish we could camp there but we are renting a house, 1850 for a 7 bedroom house. 15 people going so it will be cheaper. I would stay at fort wilderness if I was camping. I heard such wonderful things about the place

If you just want to go to Disney one or two days and spend a few days in Florida and don't mind a little drive to Disney, save a lot of money, you may want to check out Hillsborough River State Park at www.floridastateparks.org
It is about 60 miles from Disney World. You can reseve a site from a link on their website.
If you want to stay on the beach, about 90 mile from Disney, please check out Fort Desota Park at
http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/05_Ft_DeSoto.htm
This place has beautiful sites right on the gulf, cost like $28 per night tax included.
I hope this helps.

Looked into booking a trip to Ft. Wilderness at Disney. I have found out that I can camp there for 6 nights, have 5 days in 5 different parks, And have meals included for around $1500. That includes the camping area and free travel inside the park. Three meals a day at resteraunts they name. That will Leave me the first day to get there and set up and the last day to tear down and leave. At first I thought this was kinda high till I got to looking at some of the prices for hotels and rooms and cabins for the same time frame.
Who knows, I may try this yet!

With our crew, we would have needed 2 rooms if we stayed on property. We figure we will save alot with our TT, but still get to stay on property. We will be staying 11 nights. We plan on trying to eat some meals at the camper.

Explorer, Fort Desoto SP looks great!!

We have stayed at Ft. Wilderness and everyone is right. It is one of the best camping and entertainment experiences we ahve had. We lived in FL for 10 yrs., just north of Tampa. Ft. Desoto is also spectacular. I would not stay there if I was going to Disney though. Depending on time of day, it is anywhere form 2 to 3 hours commute each way. If your trip is going to include things outside of Disney, such as Old Town, Universal, Internatioal Drive Outlets, Wet n Wild, ect. I think you might want to look at Tropical Palms (www.tropicalpalmsrv.com) This place is just outside of the Disney property, has a free shuttle to Disney, and is located weel for taking advantage of the area. We have stayed here, and found it to be very good.
I hope that you have a great trip.

We camped there last Summer. Fort Wilderness is very nice, one of my favorite campgrounds. I highly recommend it if you are going to stay at Disney. Be sure and take the bikes (or rent a golf cart) to get around in the campground. It is a very large campground, and important areas are in the front, middle, and back of the campground. They have internal shuttles, but those can add unto 20 minutes for the trip to the parks, depending on where you are staying. Also if you are planning to park hop, remember the shuttle to some of the parks leave from the front, while some others leave from the back.

Which loop were you in at Disney? We have reservations for a preferred loop.
Hubby thinks we should be up near the boat dock.. but I am thinking maybe the 1400 loop to be closer to the pool? Would love to hear your thoughts.

We are so excited!

We were in the 200 loop. It was very close to the docks which is very nice for trips to the Magic Kingdom. The trips to the pool area was a trip. They do not have car parking at the pool area only bicycle and golf carts (which they rent). Keep in mind I have three children who were 7,4, and 2 when we were at Disney. We did drive to some parks after park hoping in the middle of the day and having the bicycles at the back and being dropped off at the front of the Campground when returning from the parks. If I remember correctly it is over a mile from the front of the campground to the back.

PS
They have a parade of lights every night on the lake that is pretty neat to see. Also the beach is a good place to see the Magic Kingdom fireworks. They even have the music playing there.

Thanks!

Did you happen to notice the 400 loop?

How big is your camper? Did you have trouble getting in your site?

My kids, at the time of the trip, will be 14, 17 and just turning 5.

Do you have any pics?

: )

You can send an email to me if you dont want to clog up the board : )

I have a 30' TT and did not have any problems with parking it. I looked at a lot of the loops and they all looked really good. Looking at the map I think the 400 loop would be a good loop. I am currently out of town on a trip but I will try and remember to send some photos when I get home, it will be next weekend. There is trail that leads out of the back of the 300 loop that you can ride bikes on and go into the woods.

Thanks! We are all very excited. Will be our first long distance trip with our TT. Plus, the first time that the kids and I have been to Disney. )

Fort Wilderness is the ONLY way to go... especially if you have kids! The extra $$$ is well worth it. Go to one of the parks in the morning, come back to campground for lunch, nap, & a swim, then head back to a park for the evening hours when it is so much less crowded.
