on our new camper, the electric brakes are not working.. we just got a new brake box put on the truck a month ago.. wondering if there is anything we could do to fix them ?

Have you checked the plug to see if you have power going to the brakes?

well we do have the lights on the camper working.. except for a couple, just where they are out. it did alright coming back, it just was hard to stop, since we found out we were only using the truck brakes

There are quite a few things could be the problem. The trailer plug may not be wired to match the tow vehicle plug. May have a fuse blown. If you have a diagram of the wiring for both the brake and the trailer it would help. If you have a battery on it and it is charged, pull the break away switch to see if the brakes lock on the trailer. One of you could be right beside the wheel when the other one pulls the switch and be able to hear the shoes lock up. A thirty footer is a lot of weight to stop particularly in a hurry. Good luck on finding out the problem.

Like Dirtfisher said could be so many things it could be. I hate to tell you this but in State of Tennessee if you pull a Trailer that is more than 3,000 pounds on a highway you are required to have WORKING BRAKES otherwise in an accident you will be held liable no matter who is at fault. So make sure that you get that figured out before you hook to it again. A unit that old could have a broken wire going into the hubs.

Just a suggestion, When you had the new brake box put on, was it adjusted to match the brakes on the camper. When I had a TT, there was an adjustment on the brake box in the truck that allowed you to adjust how quick the TT brakes were applied. Just a thought - altho the fuse idea is also a possibility. Just trying to help. May have to drive around SLOWLY and adjust the brake box to the camper. Good Luck... etncc/tennvols.gif
