Do you have one in the camper? Is the stuff still in date?

While at the ER this weekend I had time to talk to a dr. and an EMT and asked what they would reccomend for a first aid kit. Both agrred that one from the stores was good but with a few add on's. I thought I would pass this along as some of the stuff I never really thought about.

Tweezers, for tick removal.
alcohol
peroxide
iodine
needle for picking out briers or splinters (disinfect with alcohol)
burn creme
children and adult tylenol
anti bacterial onitment
anti bacterrial soap
calomine lotion
benadryl

I can't remember all that they said, but it will make you stop and think. If you have others please add them to the list. I really need to get mine updated.

Thanks fisherpal2k I was working on putting a tool bag together for the new to us camper and did not think of the first aid kit. I will have to get busy the camper will be here before I Know it.

Another thing that I always try to keep on hand (especially with kids) is a red washcloth. I have found that if you use a red washcloth when cleaning around a wound that is bleeding, it doesn't seem to freak the kids out so much because they don't see the contrast of the blood against the color of the washcloth. Seems the blood scares them more so than the injury. Sounds silly, but it works. Anything to help calm a crying child.

Thanks for the input Jaks mom! I had never thought of the red washcloth idea but I can see where that would be helpful with the kids.

The red wash cloth is the greatest idea! I will have to put one in my first aid kit and pass that bit of brilliance on. I got a really neat first aid kit at Sam's for $20.00 and keep it in the camper. I have used it, also. It was great having it when I fell and messed my knee up.

etncc/i love camping.png I'M AN ER NURSE, AND I THINK YOU SHOULD ADD: BANDAIDS, 4X4 SPONGES, BANDAGE TAPE, A PAIR OF SMALL SCISSORS, 1 OR 2 INSTANT ICE PACKS, SMALL TUBE OF INSTANTBOND (TO SEAL SMALL CUTS), AND CHIGGEREX (GOOD FOR ALL BUG BITES). I HOPE THIS HELPS.
