I know this has nothing to do with camping but I didn't know of where else to post. My daughter has won a all expense trip to the international Science fair in Atlanta this year as a presenter. She gets to show her project. We are heading out next month for a week. She won the trip last year but she was a observer then. She has been in the regional science fair for the last three years. the first time she won about 12-14 awards including the grand prize that year in the junior divison. Then last year she won a few more and got to go as a observer. This year she won more than she had last year and got the grand prize to display her project. We went out to Albuquerque New Mexico last year. We are driving down this year with their group. She used a Tesla coil to demonstrate trainsmitting power through the air and the earth. She so far has won at least 4-6 grand in prizes, scollarships and money and won at least 20 or more awards. If you have children that are interested in science I highly recomend encouraging them to do a project they want to. It really helps to start them in the middle school ages so they learn how to do it. Thats what we did. She started hers in the 8th grade when we got science fairs in her school for the first time and she is now in the 10th grade. With the tennesse scollarship and the scollarships she won so far we expect to have the first year hopefully paid for at Tennessee Tech. So encourage your kids but don't push them to do "your project". I have seen a lot of those kids under enormous pressure from their parents. I have helped her when she needed it but did not tell her what to do.

etncc/celeb.gif Tell her congrats from us. That is so awesome to be chosen. YOu must be so proud. I would be telling everyone about it if it was my child. Tell us how it all goes and take some pictures. I would like to see them .

Congrats again

Thats fantastic Willy! Glad she is into that kind of thing. Hope she does well and brings home the top award there! Take care and have a safe trip. Maybe you will get time to look around a little down there. Just be safe when you do.
When I was first married, I used to take my wife to Atlanta and go to the Omni Int. and all those places. It was a trip just to go see all the different types of stores and stuff. There is a lot to do if you have time. Hope you a good trip and all goes well!

And CONGRATS to the daughter! etncc/cheer.gif etncc/cheer.gif

I didn't even know what a Tesla coil was when I was in the 10th grade, much less have the intelligence to prepare a science project about one. She should have a bright future if she pursues a career in the sciences. Tennessee Tech is an excellent school (I am, of course, a little biased), and there are plenty of scholarships available for females in the engineering and science departments.

Willy, that is great news! Congratulations to her. She sure is off to a great start. It is refreshing to see young people interested in worthwhile things. I hope you have a great trip.

Thanks for all the replys. We started getting ready for it the next day. She has a band banquet my wife is making her a dress for. Thats next weekend. Then we are going to fix the awning for hopefully a camping trip the weekend of the 25 with the scotty. I also have to remake a new project board for her in the next few days so we can ship it out next week. We are going down in my Mazda truck. I finally got it to drive great now, I replaced the gas tank and filters. The tank was rusty causing a lot of problems, now it drives like a new one. I am going to look at a topper tonight probably. So don't be suprised to see it this year with the scotty. We probably won't take as many pictures as we did last year. we got to go out a lot in New Mexico since she was a observer. Plus there was a lot to see there. When you go to one of these there is so much you have to do that you are on the go until you leave when its over. I don't expect to start the truck until we head back. We will get some though. We may leave out and then spend the night in Chattanooga or somewhere before there. We may spend the day in Chattanooga just etncc/hols.gif then come home Sat. night. I have a lot of pictures from New Mexico I need to post. I will put them on the website that I have the scotty at.

They got my daughters picture in the Cookeville paper. She is the second one in the second row. She is the one who looks like the Robin Williams daughter on RV.

Congratulations! So she won a scholarship to TTU? That's fantastic.

Yes, She got a 3 grand scholarship then. She also has won money there for the last 3 years. I think the total in the bank now is about 3 grand also. So thats 6 grand just from Science fair stuff alone. I am hoping she will get some in Atlanta. The two kids that went last year got around 10 grand in scholarships. She plans on doing the science fair stuff for the next 2 years until she graduates. So hopefully there will be more. So far she has won over 20 awards there at the fair the last 3 years from all different kinds of awards and different places. She even gets to go to a Ball as the guest of honor at a engineering fraternity there in a couple of weeks. We get to go along with her teacher mentor.

Great job!!! All of that money and scholarships will come in handy especially if she likes school as much as my kids did. They both have their masters degrees. When you live in a small place like we do, you have to do everything you can to encourage your kids go to college and be all they can. There are not that many opportunities in our area unless you have a degree. I know you all are very proud of her with good reason.
