Anyone on here ever seen any LED lights that you can replace the bulbs in the camper light fixtures with? I have found some on the net but I'm not sure if they would work or not.. etncc/anyone.gif

I saw the running lights at Wally world the other day. I am thinking about replacing mine with the led lights. I believe they were something in the 4 - 5 dollar range.

one of our 2006 campers, had the LED lights, and we really liked them.. but didnt ever see it worth replacing them on the other campers.

Fisherpal, I just added one to our camper before this trip we are on now. I replaced one of the 1156 bulbs with a replacment that has 30 LEDs in it. We needed it inside for reading etc. I have it on right now, as a matter of fact, as I write this note. I wanted to reduce battery drawn when we are boondocking. I am sure it does but I am not real happy with the light output with this bulb. With shipping the one bulb cost over $29 and it is not near as bright as the 1156 that I replaced. The light coming from it has a blue cast. I think there are white lights that are available. I found some online that are sold in Australia but I didn't want to order from out of the country. I think they might have actually been better than the one I got. The one I got is on this web page http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm . Scroll down to see the 1156 30 LED bulb. One thing they told me is to be sure to get a current limiting bulb because if it is not, the LEDs won't last long because when an RV is plugged into shore power, it will overpower the LEDs.

We ended up only boondocking one night on this trip but it worked just fine with me not being concerned about battery drain. We had quite a bit of other battery drain going on during the night. I run a CPAP unit all night and we also had to use the furnace some. By the way, we were boondocking at the Tampa RV Supershow.

I would like to hear if you end up getting a replacement from somewhere else. I am still looking for a better replacement. I would like to hear what you get and what you think about it. I actually think this bulb that I got is an older technology. I might be wrong.

The 1156/1157 bulbs were what I was interested in. I have had the LED running lights on boat trailers and such and they work really well. I like them, but they are expensive if you short them out.

I am looking for lights for inside the camper and I have looked all over the internet to find them. I just have to brush up on how many "lumens" are going to be enough. If I could find them I was going to use a couple in the camper. Am hoping to find some a little cheaper than that but I guess you have top pay to play. biggrin.gif

I am also interested in one for a "night light" for my daughters room. I think they would do well, tho not as bright as a comventional light, it would serve the purpose. The battery drain is what I am worring about. I am afraid if the camper is not plugged up that the lights and other things would drain it in a couple of days.

they have the led night lites at Wally world, you can get blue, green or white. I have replaced all my night lites in the house with the led and they work great.

Fisherpal, I hope you will post any information that you find out on the 1156 replacement bulbs. I really think there are probably better choices than the one that I got. The bad thing is, they are so expensive I don't want to buy anymore until I am pretty sure they are bright enough to work. The LED that I got is cylinder shaped and has 30 LEDs in it. I thought of taking a photo of the one that I have and posting in case you would want to see what it looks like when it is on compared to the 1156 that is in the light beside it. I don't know what the photo would look like but I might try that when I get some time if you would like to see it.

I have found many listings on the net and with a few answered e-mails it seems that what I am looking for is not there.

etncc/i love camping.png, like you have found there doesn't seem to be a lot of "brightness" to the LED lights. They are all reccomended for tailights and running lights.

I have found some that are on a card but have the socket to plug in the outlet. The card has approx. 30 - 40 LEDS and it fits flat up in the light housing. But upon further inquiries they said that the LEDS did not put out as much "working" light as the regular filament bulbs do.

Still looking and will post results if I find any that I think will work.

I have found a source for "High Intensity " LED's and am hoping to order a few if it is feasable to do it. I have to find out what type of resistor and board I will need for them. If I get it I will let you know.
Thanks for all the info on here.

Most LEDs will run on 470 ohms I would use one resistor per LED . IF they don't work change the polarity of the LED. You can take a old bulb and desolder the old leads to the bulb. To get the old bulb out just wrap it in a cloth and bust the glass. Then pick out the pieces with plyers. As far as board to use Radio shack has them. The LEDs you might get off ebay. I use to order a lot of parts from a place called MCM Electronics, you could probably get all the parts there.

OK folks. I bought one of these off E-bay. Check them out and see what you think. The only thing I am worried about is if it will fit the holder or not. I should have it by next weekend and I will let you know how it works out.

Thanks for all the info and input.

Fisherpal, I will look forward to finding out what you think about the replacement that you ordered. It looks like it might be more suited than the one I got.

I took some photos of the LED 1156 replacement I got. The light on the right has the 1156 bulb and the left has the 30 LED replacement. I made the photos with the light shade on and with it off. Keep us posted on what you think about it. Thanks for sharing the information.... Jerry
