Don't know about making apple butter, but we used to make what we called apple fritters in the oven.
Make biscuit dough and roll out thin. cut out circles about 6" diameter. Add apple butter to the center of the dough. Fold dough over to make a wedge and take a fork and crimp the edges of the dough closed. Place on greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar and bake at 350* for about 12 minutes or untill dough gets brown and done.
YUMMY!!!

we make apple butter the old fashioned way in the copper kettles over a wood fire. Most people these days do start with apple sauce instead of whole apples just to speed up the process. Never heard of doing it in the oven, but in the kettles it's made exactly the same way as from whole apples. Add sugar and cinammon and stir all day long till it gets as dark as you like it. My family will actually start with red hots candies in the bottom of the kettle first for added flavor. Don't know the amounts, but I thik it's basically done to taste. Keep adding sugar till it gets where you want it. Most of the cinnamon flavoring is added in the last few minutes.
