hey. I went the opposite way in a month and a half. I agree with you about the pop-up though as far as the style of camping. I love my new travel trailer and it's SOOO comfortable to sleep in , it's really like being in a hotel room. where the pop-up had the advantage of when we slept in it, you could hear all the bugs and noise and fall asleep to that. I think they both have their advantages and disadvantages and I had actually thought about picking up a used pop-up just to go use in the more primitive campgrounds like elkmont and such. But, the advantage i have to the travel trailer right now is i can use it as guest accomadations at my house which i am doing right now actually and they are very comfortable living in it.
The pop-up i had was a fleetwood avalon that was fully loaded with all the conveniences of the travel trailer, but it just became a pain really fast to fold it up and down and to keep the canvas clean as I like to. But buying a used one just to use for "rough" camping might be a good idea. etncc/bbq.gif

well when you look at the positves on the travel trailer it make you like the travel trailer.. maybe if we won the lottery or something we could buy a popup in addition to our travel trailer.. that would be cool. have the choice of both worlds

*shaking head*... I wonder if you guys could get in the Guiness Book of World Records for the # of campers bought in a year? biggrin.gif

How about a hybrid? Best of both worlds.

My son David would like to get a popup. It makes me very happy to know that he will continue to camp once he "leaves the nest"

We have had both and still own the pop up. Sold the TT and decided to keep the little one. biggrin.gif The wife is getting ready to trade it off tho. biggrin.gif
Staying in the pop up is a little more work but it is also enjoyable. The daughter likes it and in the TT she wanted to sit and watch TV all day. That wasn't what we wanted from camping. Now she is delighted to go and help me set up the camper as I have given her some responsibilities to go along with the free ride. She has taken to the idea pretty well. She knows how to do all of it and if she was a little bigger I bet she could. Pop ups can't be too bad if an 8 yr old can do it. biggrin.gif

well right now it is just a thought.. we thought about the time that we went to jelly stone in the popup, and how much fun it was. and we decided that it wasnt only the campground it was the camper.. too..

we down grade to a pop up as well
when we had our TT we really didnt have a place to store it and the thought of
the sun and wind and rain on it worried us so we sold it 1999 TT to a 82 pop up
now we have a 24x32 car port and now looking at the new fleetwood pop ups
no sinks to fold in the bottom part is buit taller so every thing just pushes in
and crank it down etncc/tennvols.gif

yea thats the kind we like.. not like we have had.. we like the high wall ones.. the fleetwoods the best because they have sewer hook up .

we like the 2005 Starcraft that Cathey's RV has right now..

We started with a 1984 Coleman Columbia, 8 foot box, very tiny for us and 2 teens. Worked well but had no air---that was miserable.
Upgraded to a 1990 Wilderness Yukon. Loved the TT but I despised pulling it. It just scared me. But I kept trying cause DW loved it.
We have since sold the tt because it was sitting unused due to my heart problems. Problems are fixed (after 3 surgeries and 5 weeks in 2 hospitals) and I am starting a teacher education program in January at Tusculum College so we planned on waiting two years to buy anything.
****Take note****
If you want to wait to buy a camper stay away from Cathey's!! Their deals are too good to pass up. Went there one Saturday morning so my craving for a pop up would be extinquished. Instead we bought a wonderful 1999 Coleman Niagara and we had no intention of buying anything. I am not sorry though!!
Looking forward to being back in a pop up and not being afraid to pull my rig.

BTW........Cathey's is truly a great family business to deal with. We were treated so well and we were just buying a used camper. That thoroughly impressed us!

Blessings and Grace,
Don

We absolutely LOVE our popup. It is a twenty year old Star Lite. It is simple, small and easy. We were able to pay cash for it so that makes it much nicer to us. Graduating from a tent to anykind of camper is great. We do plan to get a truck camper later on. We don't need anything big because it is just me, my husband and two cocker spanies, Patch and Chester. The boys, as we call them, love to go camping and love the camper. We do have to fold down the sink and we don't have a bathroom (that is the worst part). I am just amazed at all of the storage space there is.
