As some on this forum may know, Great Smoky Jellystone is one of my favorite campgrounds. The owners really do a great job!
However, I just went to their website which has now had their activity dates, etc. updated for 2008. I looked at some of the weekends and thought they would be great to reserve..
Then, I read their new policy...
Four night minimum from June 12th to August 12th
I have a sneaking suspicion that this new rule my cost them some of their business.
Its a reasonably short drive for us to go down on a friday and leave on Sunday. Now, thats not possible. We will have to take our weekend business to some other campground.
I dont know.... makes me a bit sad...
I certainly hope that more campgrounds do not implement such a policy.

very bad for business.. i know some have it that way for labor day and memorial day weekends.. have to check it out

Thats not really fair. Most of the time that we get off is on a short weekend and if the kid is not out of school that would shoot me in the foot for sure.

4 night minimum is justs ridiculous. Maybe for a holiday weekend but even them most people only have 3 days. We went to Jellystone this past year for the first time and while it is nice and the owners are very friendly the sites are just way too tight. There are better campgrounds in the area for a LOT less $$$ per night. Smokey Bear campground is one and its only a couple miles away from jellystone.

I hate they did that, but it is only for two months. As bad as I don't like it, I really don't think it will hurt their business.
These people are great and I am sure they have a reason.(although I can't imagine what it could be)

Oh and one more thing,
Did the owner have a heart attack or something like that last year?
I missed that post and was wondering if they were OK.
It didn't change hands or anything did it?

Yes, Marta had a heart attack the weekend we were last there. Happened around 10:30pm friday night. We were there for a Halloween weekend. The youngest son and a campworker kept the campground running that weekend and did a good job. Last I heard she is doing well.
I agree that Smoky Bear is an option. However, my 5 year old would be none to happy to camp so close to Jellystone and not stay there. She is a big Yogi fan : )

What about the Jelly Stone in cherokee? Have any of you stayed there? Does it even compare?

I have not been to the one in Cherokee. I know that someone on here (sorry, I dont remember your name) has pics of the campground and really loves it there.

I looked at the website again today and the 4 day minimum notice is no longer there.....
