Has anyone ever installed a slide out cover awning on a travel trailer? I was thinking of putting one on but wasnt sure what i was getting myself into. Also, I want to put a folding grab rail near the door since the one that is there is just way to small and you end up grabbing on the awing support rail when your walking out of the trailer. My travel trailer is Aluminum siding so i was worried about drilling into it. Any suggestions on how to do it? Installation wants $60 bucks to put it on, and i dont think it can be that difficult.

You will need to contact the dealership or the factory and see if one can be installed on your unit. Reason when you attached the supports for the awning you will need something behind the aluminum to attach to. Some factory's do not have enough to attach the slide out topper. Or only a 1" x 2" to drill into and a lot of times you will split that if the proper size bolt is not used.

The thing you need to ask if they have installed a backer for the awning to be attached to. Most brands do have the backer but still a lot of factories do not install it and the screws/bolts will strip out very easy.

This is a easy project to do but will need two to three people to get it compeleted to pull the fabric through the rail.

I personally would pay the $60 for install...I wouldn't want to take a chance on a leak. You put it on and have a leak. its your problem. A dealer puts it on and it leaks, their problem to resolve.

I also would pay the $60 for the install. If you do anything to cause a leak, it will cost a lot more than $60 to repair.
