My big day turned into a nightmare. I dont know if it's a big sign not to have this surgery or not.
got there at 5am. They took me back. I was treated over a week ago for a sinus infection. I called the neuro office yesterday and told them I still felt like I had a golf ball in my throat. they said no problem.
Anyway, I go back. get my iv in. Then.. error #1..... two nurses put dilaudid in my iv. It is used to relax you. I started feeling very nauseous. I go back, and then they stop. The anesthesiologist talked to Dr.Burt and they decided it was too risky to do the surgery today due to my throat.. that it was too risky to be working in my spine when I may have an active infection still. So, my instructions were to go home and call my primary Doc.. get in there and get my throat situation figured out. They wheel me back to unhook me, and I get sick. And my face turns bright red and I start to itch. It was a reaction to either the antibiotics they put in my iv (i ended up in the emergency room before and had to get a shot of adrenalin and a shot of cortison due to erythromycin so I have had issues with antibiotics before) or too much dilaudid. Vomited all the way home.. I know, too much information : ) and for an hour or so after I got home. Then, took a little nap. Was doing fine until the girls made microwave popcorn.
So.. good news is... I am home and just may go camping this weekend!
Bad news, no surgery, need to find out how to clear up this throat issue so it is safe to operate... and.. need to make sure they do something DIFFERENT next time when it comes to antibiotics in my IV and medicine to relax me... and have to find a time to reschedule it asap around my husbands out of town work schedule. And , the BIGGIE... is all of this telling me not have this surgery...??
I finally gained some peace last night about the surgery.. then this....
I appreciate the prayers.. they mean alot.
