I got the outside of scotty painted last weekend. I got the last of the trim on today. With the exception of a few runs I was really pleased with it. My air compressor is on the blick so I had to resort to a electic sprayer. But it did a good job considering it was electric. I have put in a lot of hours to get it to this point. I wanted to get the outside painted before the cold sets in. I can heat the inside to paint that. I plan to take it out for a test spin as soon as I am done the first chance I can. I have probably close to 200 hours of work in it now. I probably will have about 100-200 more before I am finished. I got it rewired for all the 12 volt light on the outside. I do have to put on clearence light but the wires are run. The camper had a second set of tailights added. I wanted to use the original ones but the socket wires were bad. I took the socket wiring out of the add on tailight and put them in the originals. It worked perfect. I got the new bench side cut out also. I made a new one and cut out a sctty dog on the side. I will paint it the robins egg blue and then put a painted black board behind the bench. That way it will show up the scotty dog real good and the cutout will be black in that area. Its on page 5 at the bottom of my pictures at page 5. heres the link. http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/560245562OMCsZD?start=48

looking good! now if you would only sell it to us!

Nope, I have no plans to sell it. I looked for a scotty for over a year until I found it. If you want one redone we might could work something out. If you find one but it needs lots of work let me know. I might rebuild it for you. I do know of where one is exactly like mine. The guy bought it to redo and had to rebuild the wood structure like I did. The guy who was going to help him got too busy about half way and didn't help anymore . I may try to see if he wants to sell it and then fix it up. I plan on keeping this scotty and my Aristocrat. But I would like to find another one for a project to sell.

Willy, you got that thing lookin GOOD!!! Now about them shabby lookin wheels......
Just kidding man, glad to see that thing look like a camper again! You are gonna have it fixed up right! Thanks for keeping us up to date on the progress.

Thanks fisherpal. I am going to repack the bearings this winter and will paint the wheels then. I wanted to get hte outside put back together and get it painted before the cold set in. I can paint the wheels in my shop if its cold. Hopefully I can head up yalls way at least once next year so everyone can see it. Did you ever think it would go back together? I don't know if you remember the trim on the corners. It was messed up,warped, twisted and loose . I hammered it until I got it back in shape. I then polished it with steel wool and scotchbrite. It went on fairly good and you can't tell how bad it was. I guess I have about 200 hours in it now. Its all downhill to fix now.

wow you did a number on that one willy. I would have been scared to touch that in the condition it was in but you've got it looking like new again. Kudos to ya

Thanks for the complement. In does have a few imperfections but I like it like that. Its similar to cars at a car show. I will pass up the trailer queens to look at a backyards mechanics vehicle with all its imperfections. You learn a lot more from some bubba with a 5 grand cost in a 57 chevy than sme rich dude with a 100k car that he didn't fix the first thing. To me its the getting and fixing that I like. It has a confortable feel to it. I did get the bench made this week that I cut the Scotty out of the side. I will have to post pictures of that soon. I will paint the dog black and the bench, walls and ceiling robins egg blue with splatter paint.
Wimperdink- 10-25-2007
how do you put on the splatter paint? I wanted fine splatter but gave it up because my a.d.d. wouldn't allow me to take the time.
I read it there how to do it. The way its done is to paint the blue background all over. Then after its dried get the black and white paint you want to splatter. Take a paint brush and dip the end into one of the colors. Then turn it upside down and take a screwdriver, piece of wood ,etc and rub the top of the paint bristles. Go in the directon of the end away from you towards you. The paint will fling off the bristles when you do that and hit the walls. I was told to practice some to get the hang of it. One you have one color done then do the other color. I don't remember whick color is first. I am going to look through my saved files of other scottys to see what should go on first. The last color should overlap the first color.
