Does anyone have any opinions on camping at the Treemont Hills CG in Townsend? We are not familiar with that side of the park and are debating camping there or in Gatlinburg.

Do you need hookups, or are you self-contained? If you are self-contained, I would recommend staying in Cades Cove. Like the rest of the NPS campgrounds in the Smokies, they don't have hookups, but they do have a central dump/freshwater station and clean bathrooms (no showers in the bathrooms, though).

I looked at reviews and they were all good for this campground, I am sure you will be fine to camp there.

Townsend is very nice but did you know that every thing is a long drive from there. P.F. is about 35 min. Gatl. about 45 min. I believe.

I think the nearest Wal-Mart is about 45 min away etncc/omg.gif

I would recommend Little River Village over Tremont, I think the management is friendlier at LRVC. Although Tremont is not that far away from town. Pigeon Forge is about 17-20 miles away. Walmart takes right at 30 minutes to drive to it. There is a Dollar General and an IGA in Townsend, and they are building a Family Dollar Store, Its just a little way to go to get fast food, but there is a Subway in Townsend. Hope this helps.

There is also a good restaurant close by. Timbers? Heck, I dont remember the name. It is prior to the IGA. They have great burgers and french dip sandwhiches. I too prefer Little River over Tremont. I was making reservations at Little River at 12:00am on 1/1/07 for 2008 - and I still didnt get the site I wanted.. ! : ( Not quite sure how other people got thru before me. I think they dont really go by time called but by who they are friends with... but I guess that is another story for another day.... I love the area Little River is in. After a day of shopping or Dollywood, etc. the beautiful drive down to Little River was so etncc/hols.gif!

Hello All! I just spent Friday - Sunday here. Rates for full hookups (no WiFi) were $32.00 per night. We stayed in the "new" section. It used to be for tents and small popups. We were "on" the river - about 25' straight up - no paths down. The bathrooms were freshly painted and clean. The shower stalls looked kind of questionable. They had new surrounds, but from looking at the floor tiles, I wondered what was behind this new fix. The stalls left a lot to be desired. The toilets weren't new but were clean and a good size for young children but for someone with bad knees and not much room front to back, a little tricky. They gave us a code for the doors, but the locks were duct taped, so you could just go on in without the code. All in all, I'd stay at either Little River (kind of crowded and not much in the way of riverfront) or at Tuckaleechee - same problems with old trying to make it look new but more affordable rates and better river sites.

Happy Camping!
