i brought my 05 dodge ram truck in for an oil change today and it has been making a rattling noise that was coming from the fan motor so i asked them to check it out to see if it could be tightened. The mechanic informed me that the water pump shaft is what was loose and that if it broke it could do major damage. He showed it to me and it has been leaking for awhile that i didnt know about. Anyway, the truck has 32k miles on it and it still under warranty from Dodge so it wont cost me anything but it's kinda just the point. 32k miles you shoud not be replacing a water pump already. I had a f-150 and only ever changed a battery in 110k miles. I hope this is not a sign of things to come with this truck. I've heard bad things about dodge from some people but i'm hoping this is just a freak thing.
Anyone else have bad experiences with Dodge?

Thanks,
Erik

I had a 69 Chevelle 350, bought new and replaced the water pump every 10,000 mile until 30,000 and it finally lasted. Must have been a bad batch of replacement parts. Only vehicle ever had problem with water pump.

We had a Dodge Eagle and it wasn't anything but a major problem the whole time we had it. I had it worked on several times at the dealer and after the warrenty went out I had to get it worked on several more times till we traded it in. The heater core went out on it at 25k miles. Then the a/c went out on it. I haven't wanted a Dodge product since.
I have a friend that has a Dodge Ram truck with 280,000 miles on it and never a problem. I think there is Lemons in all of them.
I hope this isn't a bad thing for you. I would have the fan clutch checked along with the water pump. If the fan has wobbled any it will destroy the bearings in the clutch .

We have a 98 Durango and have been very pleased with it. Had 137K miles on it when we bought it two years ago. We've put about 33K on it since then, much of it while towing our camper, and no real issues. I did rebuild the rear axle due to a bad pinioin bearing, but I found evidence of water in the axle so the previous owner aparently didn't bother changing the fluid and towed a boat with it. Also had to replace a window regulator in a rear door. Cheap plastic piece broke and allowed the cable to come loose, but then again at around 150K and almost 10 years old when this happened, I'd expect to have a few things start to go wrong. Mechanically, it's been very relaibale so far with no complaints. Even the rear axle problem wasn't that big of a deal since I rebuilt it myself, but the root cause of that problem was poor maintenance. All in all we are very very pleased with our Dodge and it handles our towing needs really really well.
