Full Version : What is this TT worth?

Just looking for opinions here :)

Its a '62 Aloha 13' TT. Have title and current tags. I intended to restore it, but the condition was still so good that I just left it alone and used it and fixed the minor things that were wrong with it. The inside has been painted, and sticky tile updated the floor. Its not perfect but in great shape.

I have loved this camper but my 77 ford f250 drinks gas like nobodys business so I'm leaning more towards building a TD that I can pull behind my Car to make camping a lil more affordable. Haven't entirely talked myself into selling it but I'm just curious what you folks think it may be worth. (will it bring enough to buy materials for a teardrop)

I've also posted this at a Tear Drop camper forum. Just havent got a clue.

UH OH I am on the spot now etncc/omg.gif . Now I don't know exactly what these things go for but I will try to give a guess. I have seen the older ones go for between 1 grand to 3500 around here depending on make, condition, location, how bad the user wanted to sale it,how bad the new owner wanted it,etc. Now this is a guess on my part and I may be way off. I am going to guess on yours for between 1500 and 2500. I have seen fully restored ones on the west coast go for 5-10 grand or more. They go for more on the west coast and how well they are shape wise. Keep a eye on ebay. Some bonus points to yours is that it is in good shape and a canned ham. Now on to the pulling of it. Do you know how much the weight at the tounge is? it should be about 200 pounds. You might get a load leveler and pull it with something smaller. The guy who had my 20 ft Aristocrat pulled it with a 6 cylinder Bronco before. The aristocrat is over 2 tons,my guess on yours its probably 1000-1200 pounds . What kind of car do you have and have you ever pulled this Aloha with it? The reason I ask is that my scotty is about the same size and I pulled it with my 2 liter 4 cylinder sunfire. I had no problems bringing it from Delano to Smithville. That was a trip about 170 miles and going up the mountain from Pikeville to Crossville. Thats why I wanted the scotty so I could haul it with a smaller car. On to teardrops. I am guessing that it should sale for about what you can build a teardrop for. Or at least my estimate of one when I was looking to build one. Tractor supply had a decent trailer frame for about 300 bucks last year. Then you figure the cost of birch plywood, Aluminum, the trim ran me about 20 bucks for 8 feet of it. Plus other stuff etc. You can get the aluminum at a trailer repair shop where truckers have them repaired. But get ready for sticker shock. I posted a while back a good teardrop group here in one of the posts. If you live close to Jamestown there is a guy who builds them there. I posted a link on here somewhere tonight. I hate to see you sell the Aloha. But I can let people know if you deciede to sell it.

thanks willy. I'm not 100% certian of the tounge weight and I'm sure my car would pull it, but i'm a lil concerned about tranny damage if I pulled it very far. My car is a 1.8 L 4 cylinder. I've pulled boats iwth it that I shouldnt have but no need to kill a tranny needlessly.

I'm not 100% as to weather or not I want to sell it. I know I want a teardrop and I just dont want to see this one rot in the backyard not being used.... on the other hand I dont want to sell it to someone who would just let it rot in their back yard. biggrin.gif

I do know where there are a couple of campers that are in need of 100% restoration that I might try to haul one off for the tear drop frame.

willy3486- 09-25-2007
If you can get a camper that is in need for total restoration and may be up for a deal let me know. If its one I might be interested in I may make a trade with you for a new frame if you would be interested. I would like to find another one about the size of my scotty to rebuild when its done. I plan on keeping the scotty and Aristocrat to use, but I would like to find one to resell. If its one of the shasta, scotty or other types like that I would be interested. I really do not care about the wood so as long as I could move it I might be interested. And if its not or you want to keep the frame I might be interested in some of the scrap parts.

Whimperdink, do you have any pictures of the inside of your little camper? I have a teardrop I am considering trading for a camper about the size you have. Let me know if you might be interested in trading. Jim

thanks for the offer Jim.... I've just finished painting the interior on this... Just about done with it and its going to standby in my yard for awhile. I just aquired the trailer i'm going to use for my tear drop build. I've decided I might hang on to this one for awhile to see if I can hang with a teardrop full time before I change completely. I would love to see pics of your teardrop though.

Whimperdink, I will look around the forum and see if I can figure out how to post pictures and will post a few of the Teardrop for you. I enjoyed building our tear although it took 384 hours to build. If you decide to build I will glad to tell you all I know about building them. Do you have a design for your's yet?
I tried to post some pictures but I wasn't able to, I will keep trying though.

Jim

Thanks Wimperdink, I appreciate that. It was a lot of fun to build but I sure wouldn't build another one. It took me 384 hours to build and close to $3,000.00 in materials in it. We love the little booger but our health calls for a little bigger camper.

Wimperdink- 11-18-2007
I want one so bad I can taste it and believe me if I had the money, you would already have a deal. I picked up a used red trailer for 60 bucks and getting ready to start my tear build. It wont be a regular tear shape this time. I just hope mine looks even half as good as yours when i'm done. Have you posted it at the teardrop forums or craigslist? I'm betting if you did that, it would be gone inside of 2 weeks.
