After much research.. and reading reviews and opinions.. I ordered an Equal-i-zer WDH tonight. I am impressed with the 4 point sway control.. and what appears to be a pretty easy set up. Anyone else own the Equal-i-zer Hitch?

Glad to hear that you found a WDH that meets your need. Where did you order it from?

I am going to install the Equal-i-zer* WDH today.. I am not a mechanic , by any stretch of the imagination.. but I am pretty sure I can do this. Gonna have the ball attached to the "hitch head" at a local garage.. I don't have the proper torque wrench to get it secure.

So far I am really impressed with the instruction manual included with the hitch. The company's website also has a very detailed video of the actual installation.

I'll let ya know how it turns out.

We have the equalizer hitch with the prodigy brake control as well. Ours was included when we bought our camper. The dealer installed both for us. With everything I have read, this combo is a great way to go.

the WDH is installed.. it really wasn't very hard. The worst thing was the HEAT!! hot here in E Tenn today. And I had to go buy a couple of BIG wrenches I didn't have.

Anyway.. one big improvement, so far.. no more back end sag on the TV.. and no more front end sag on the TT. It looks very nice and even now.. so I am happy about that. I may just have been lucky.. but I was able to achieve pretty good weight distribution on the first set up. I took all the measurements.. and was careful to follow directions closely.

I haven't been able to pull the camper very far.. just up and down the driveway,.. because I need to take the hitch head and have the ball torqued.. My friend who does that for me wasn't working today. So I can't comment on whether it pulls any different.

Chuck, I have an Equalizer hitch and it is great! If you get it set up right you will love it. The only thing with it or any other WDH is the poping noise you get when backing up. I was scared to death the first time I used it and now I have gotten used to the popping and it is doing its job. Glad you got a good one to start with and I think you will really like it too.

Fortunately.. I had been reading reviews and info on the Equal-i-zer.. before my purchase and install.. so I was expecting the popping.. etc. When I backed the TT into it's parking place next to the carport.. my wife thought it was coming un-hitched!

by the way fisher.. do your spring arms freely move when un-hitching? I raised the TT to ease tension.. as the manual suggests.. and the arms were high enough to remove.. but they seemed kinda tight and were difficult to swing out. In fact.. one of them I just un pinned and pulled it out of the hitch head.

I went all out when I bought my trailer and had an electric jack installed. It really helps when jacking the trailer up to remove the arms. Yes, mine was really tight when I got it and I thought something was wrong with it. I then asked around and was told to spray the hitch area with WD-40 to help lossen it up some. It worked out pretty good after it took a trip or two. I can now move them in and out a lot easier. Still a little tight but I don't want them really loose either.

Just a thought, I know your trailer isn't as heavy as mine, but you might want to start using a hitch ball grease with the ball and coupler. No one told me and after a few trips and dust getting into the ball coupler, it scarred the ball and inside of the coupler. I towwed it to FL and back without any lube on it and it really done a number on the coupler.

I bought a small can of the Teflon grease from Camping World to use on it now. You can find it at Wally World also. I think it was like $4 a can but it is better than replacing a ball or coupler.

When we go on a trip now, I clean the inside of the coupler with a paper towel and wipe the ball off. I apply clean grease to the ball and it spreads inside the coupler when I hook it up and tow. When I get to where I am going, I just place a zip lock bag over the ball to keep from getting grease on everything. Then when I am ready to leave I pull a little more on it if it isn't dirty or dusty. If its dirty I just wipe it out and apply clean grease to it.

By the way, the WD-40 works good on the steps too.

I noticed in the picture that it shows a pin and clip in the hitch, receiver. I keep that for a spare and bought one I can lock it to the truck with. If that thing walks off it would really be a problem to replace. biggrin.gif
