Here is a scotty for sale. Some had been interested in getting one, hope no one minds the post. They are easy to redo and a good winter project. I hate to see it become a lawnmower trailer. ITs at http://golsn.com/listings/recreational_veh...rs/1103036.html

Thanks for the heads up, I sent the owner a message that I am very interested. I would buy it sight unseen at that price. By the way where is Oneida? etncc/dontknow.gif

That's probably about an hour away from Knoxville, north-west just of I75. As far as price thats a decent price. It looks to be in good shape and probably all you will have to do to it is rebuild the wooden frame. If you are up to it and wouldn't be scared off if it has quite a bit of rot I would do a tear down to the metal frame. These things are small and fairly easy to rebuild. If you did that you could fix it right to where it would be good as new. If I get another one thats the kind of shape I would want it in,rebuilt it from the ground up.

As far as the price thats a a reasonable price. One that needs a total rebuild should run from 200 or less if major parts are missing, preferably 100 or less if it needs cabinets and all interior replaced. Buying the refrig, stove, windows, etc is what will cost the most. That price can go up to about 500-600 with one as complete as that. It looks to be in good shape, other than the seams. It has the lights on the outside and the front window cover which you don't see many that do. If it has the scotty hubcaps and the back bumper that adds to the price, the hubcaps can be worth more than the rest of the camper. Probably with that one all you may have to do is to get wood for the shell and use the cabinets and seats in it. When I redid mine I used the overhead console and the wood for the table. There was one cabinet by the door. The rest of the wood left I used for a pattern . If you do get it and need help let me know, I will help what I can and send links that I have.

As far as buying one of these you have two problems that you can run into. One is people who want to sell or buy one to turn it into a lawnmower trailer. You have to compete with that, otherwise its value would be around the scrap value of the metal which would be around 50 bucks or less. One guy who had a scotty wanted 600 bucks for it and it was only me 8 miles from my house. He got it into his head it was worth that because someone wanted it for a lawnmower trailer. The thing wasn't worth fixing. It had all the glass broke, many of the parts were missing and the aluminum looked like it was chopped up with a hatchet. That was 4-5 years ago and the thing is still at his mothers house, about to cave in now. I passed and got a nicer Aristocrat that needed less work for a lot less. And the aristocrat had all items I needed. The next year I got a Scotty from Fisherpal here. I sent him a smaller 2 feet trailer this year because he let me have the scotty. laugh.gif

The other issue is just because its vintage or old people think its the hope diamond. Its like cars you see on Barrett Jackson auction. They see a mint Shelby mustang from the 60s with 500 original miles and they think their 300k mile mustang with blown up engine, dented and rusty body of a mustang is worth 20 grand. Someone will see a original vintage trailer that has been in a garage since it was new go for 5-10 grand or more and expect theirs with water damage and rot go for it as well. I know of one now for about 6 grand that has been redone but its spotless and the person probably has that or more in it. Its been used maybe one season since off the frame rebuild.

I appreciate all the advice. The owner emailed me back saying someone had dibs on it before me. I told them to just keep me in mind if the first deal fell through. Thanks for the info and please continue to keep me in mind if you run across something else. I am looking forward to trying my hand on a rebuild. etncc/spam1.gif

I learned that particular lesson on Mustangs about 20 years ago. I was glad to get the money I had in parts for the thing by the time I sold it. Lots of hours, and lots of bmess and trouble for just practice.
