If you catch a freshwater eel, get a handful of sand before you try to handle it. Those slimy rascals will find a way to worm out of your hands otherwise.

To get rid of the fish smell after cleaning fish, try everything you ever heard, and then try washing your hands with a paste of salt and water. Scrub them till they are red, and then do the same with your fingernails and a fingernail brush (or just clip them off). It's the best de-stinker I've found.
